Founded in 1955, the Albert Einstein College of Medicine (Einstein) is one of the nation’s premier institutions for medical education, basic research and clinical investigation. The Analytical Imaging Facility provides a comprehensive light and electron microscope imaging facility dedicated to bringing state of the art methods in modern imaging to biomedical scientists with all levels of expertise. The AIF staff has been cross-trained to offer a seamless transition from classical histology, to high resolution light microscope imaging in 3D, to state of the art electron microscopy. 


The technician will participate in the light microscopy component of a variety of projects from a diverse group of investigators.


This is an entry level technician position for someone who has basic experience in fluorescence microscopy, confocal microscopy, image processing software and quantitative data analysis.  The technician must be motivated and be able to work independently under the supervision of the Directors of the facility.  It is essential that the technician have excellent communication skills.  Finally, the technician must be able to work well in a heterogeneous multi-user environment.



  1. Operation and maintenance of light microscopes, laser scanning confocal microscopes and associated computer hardware and software.
  2. Train new users in microscope operation and computer imaging techniques.
  3. Perform quantitative image analysis of experimental data
  4. Train users in quantitative image analysis of experimental data
  5. Maintain computer hardware and software infrastructure
  6. Perform figure production and web presentation of data
  7. Maintain lab inventory, order supplies and general lab housekeeping.
  8. Other related lab duties as assigned.


The person will:

  • perform simple or moderately complex technical procedures
  • require occasional guidance
  • may occasionally be responsible for ordering supplies for the laboratory
  • may frequently train or guide other technical personnel
  • may modify experimental protocols
  • occasionally analyze and interpret data
  • An understanding of moderately complex scientific literature and moderate understanding of research goals and rationale is required.



  • Required to have at least a Bachelor's Degree in a related science or equivalent skills or experience, and up to two and one half years of experience.
  • Training: knowledge of optics and fluorescence imaging preferred
  • Experience in fluorescence microscope imaging preferred
