Founded in 1955, the Albert Einstein College of Medicine (Einstein) is one of the nation’s premier institutions for medical education, basic research and clinical investigation. Reporting to the Accounting Department, the Student Finance Accountant is responsible for the accurate recording and collection of the student loan portfolio, preparing reconciliations to maintain control over student cash payments, processing federal drawdowns to receive loan funds and processing student refunds. Participant in monthly close processes, annual close processes, annual financial statement audit, uniform guidance audit and other audits. Detail responsibilities inclued the following:

  • Record, collect and maintain accurate general ledger balances and loan subsidiary ledger balance for student loans. Coordinate activities with outside billing and collection companies. Determine required reserves for uncollectible loans.
  • Implement new loan subsidiary ledger and serve as the “system owner” for the loan subsidiary ledger.
  • Prepare and process drawdowns to the federal government requesting payment for federal loans.
  • Prepare daily reconciliations and journal entries to record student cash payments. Receive, post and reconcile wires from 3rd parties such as   TMS, Military, and Americorps. Coordinate these functions with the Student Finance Office.
  • Build test and maintain refund table in Banner. Process student refunds in coordination with the Student Finance Office.
  • Prepare entries and account analyses for monthly close. Interface with Student Finance, Finance and other Administrative departments.
  • Prepare schedules for annual financial statement audits and other audits. Interface with auditors.
  • Assist in processing Form 1098T for students.


Bachelor's degree, preferably in Accounting, Finance or other Business discipline. Two to four years’ accounting or student finance experience. School experience preferred.

Must be a “self starter” with strong ability to design processes and resolve problems.
Proficiency in Excel and other Microsoft Office products is required.
Familiarity with Banner preferred
