Founded in 1955, the Albert Einstein College of Medicine (Einstein) is one of the nation’s premier institutions for medical education, basic research and clinical investigation. A full-time faculty of some 2,000 conducts research, teaches, and delivers health care in every major biomedical specialty. The college has some 730 medical students, 193 Ph.D. students, 106 MD/Ph.D. students and 275 postdoctoral fellows.

Manage the successful operation of the 25,000 sq. ft. facility including a gymnasium, indoor track, 1 squash court, 2 racquetball courts, 2 weight rooms, 2 locker rooms with steam rooms and saunas, a whirlpool and a 75 foot swimming pool;


Oversee the day to day operation of the facility, including identifying the needs of the facility users;


Implement short and long-term planning to maintain and improve the facility;


Recruit, hire, train, supervise and evaluate staff as needed;


Oversee the scheduling of the 20 plus hourly staff and prepare schedules for the management team;


Provide appropriate services including classes, tournaments, clinics and special events;


Troubleshoot problems with fitness/athletic equipment, pool mechanical room, locker room amenities including steam rooms and

saunas, hair dryers, suit-mate and all other operational functions of the facility( ie. heating, ventilation, showers and structural concerns).  Follow up with the appropriate in house trade or outside vendor to resolve the problem;


Communicate with housekeeping and security supervisors regarding issues or concerns related to their services;
Investigate appropriate vendors to perform routine/ annual maintenance jobs and provide information for all equipment/supplies to be purchased;


Process and keep records of applications for memberships, trial memberships, guest passes, locker rentals, payroll deduction and the issuing of NYSC guest passes, purchase orders, work orders, check requests and other related forms as needed;

Resolve facility users, members and guests, problems/concerns related to the application of the facilities policies and procedures and other unpredictable issues;


Initiate and oversee the creation of all programming promos /flyers and other pertinent facility news;


Send frequent e-mails to MS/SGGD students, quarterly membership notices and facility brochures to keep members informed and up to date regarding the facility;


Provide staff to assist with graduation, registration and other college orientation programs.


Experience and Educational Background

Bachelor’s degree in recreation, athletic administration or a related field is required plus a minimum of 5 years experience as a manager in the recreation or athletic administration field.  Master’s degree is preferred.  Red Cross certification in CPR/ AED is required. Knowledge of swimming pool maintenance and/or New York City swimming pool operator’s certification is desirable.

Scope of Responsibility

The manager works under minimal supervision and regularly interacts with the departments of engineering, human resources, accounting and the offices within the supporting service department. The manager will supervise 2 assistant managers and 20 plus hourly personnel and is responsible for monitoring a $650,000 facility budget and an income of $85,000.
