    Founded in 1955, the Albert Einstein College of Medicine (Einstein) is one of the nation’s premier institutions for medical education, basic research and clinical investigation. A full-time faculty of some 2,000 conducts research, teaches, and delivers health care in every major biomedical specialty. The college has some 730 medical students, 193 Ph.D. students, 106 MD/Ph.D. students and 275 postdoctoral fellows.

    The Rose F. Kennedy Center (RFK) is a comprehensive Center for services, education, research and advocacy on behalf of persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD). The RFK Children's Evaluation and Rehabilitation Center (RFK CERC) of Albert Einstein College of Medicine/Montefiore Medical Center is the clinical arm of the Rose F. Kennedy Center. The RFK CERC serves more than 5,000 persons with developmental disabilities and their families, the majority of whom are from under-served communities in the Bronx.  In addition, RFK CERC is designated by HRSA as a major teaching program by virtue of funding through the Leadership in Education in Neurodevelopmental Disabilities (LEND) program. The RFK LEND is constituted of faculty from 14 disciplines including health care administration and provides interdisciplinary training to long-term, medium-term and short-term trainees. In addition, the RFK Center is designated as a national Center of Excellence through funding from the Administration on Community Living (ACL) through the University Center of Excellence in Developmental Disabilities (UCEDD) program.

     

    Position

    The Rose F. Kennedy (RFK) Children's Evaluation and Rehabilitation Center (CERC) of Albert Einstein College of Medicine/Montefiore Medical Center is seeking a full-time Director, Grants & Contracts. The Director will also serve as the LEND Faculty in Health Care Administration.

     

     

    The Director of Grants and Contracts is an integral member of the RFK CERC’s leadership team. The Director of Grants and Contracts maintains responsibility for all sponsored projects activities, including the financial administration of a diverse and complex portfolio of private and public grants and contracts, totaling $7M+ and comprised of 20+ fund accounts. The Director ensures fiscal responsibility and compliance with applicable rules and regulations established by both the sponsor agency and the University as well as Montefiore Medical Center. Responsible for the development and implementation of appropriate policies and procedures, the Director creates and maintains robust financial controls ensuring all departmental accounting and financial policies are consistent with University policies as well as Montefiore Medical Center’s policies.

     

    The LEND Faculty in Health Care Administration reports to the Director of the RFK LEND and participates in the interdisciplinary education of all trainees. This may include didactic presentations, hands-on learning, and project mentorship either independently or in collaboration with other LEND faculty. The LEND Faculty in Health Care Administration participates as a member of the RFK LEND Steering Committee and advises the Director on discipline-specific issues related to curriculum development, trainee selection, program operations and strategy.

    POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

    Director, Grants & Contracts

    • Directs and oversees all pre and post award grants and contracts activities of $7M+ portfolio, by coordinating the timely submission of sponsored projects and reports, compiling and disseminating appropriate project data, and overseeing daily practices to ensure compliance with University and sponsor policy.
    • Possesses strong knowledge of and expertise in policies and best practices for managing federal and non-federal grants and contracts in a university as well as healthcare context
    • Gathers data and analyzes information to provide recommendations and optimizes the use of all funding sources associated with RFKC ERC
    • Manages financial operations of grant funding. Monitors expenses, tracks balances, conducts variance analysis, and projects burn rate and future utilization. Manages subcontract finances.
    • Oversees all grants management activities, such as financial monitoring and reporting, salary allocations, reconciliation of accounts in both institutions; performs accounting associated with monthly and annual close; supports financial audits using Einstein and Montefiore systems.
    • Ensures completion of regular financial attestations and other reports. Ensures federal grant reports, invoicing, reimbursements are processed accurately and in a timely manner; confirms all grants and contracts are closed-out appropriately.
    • Identifies, troubleshoots and resolves complex grants administrative issues; keeps ED apprised / escalates as appropriate. Identifies opportunities to streamline workflow to improve performance; develops and delivers training for lab members.
    • Manages staff within the grants team to ensure high performing and collaborative team members.
    • Establishes and manages performance goals for grant team to ensure effectively coordinated and administered grants and budgets.
    • In conjunction with the ED, directs and implements ongoing budget planning processes and the development of long-term budget plans and analyses for grant portfolio.
    • Prepares information for executive level presentations as required, and performs other related duties and special projects as assigned.

     

    The LEND Faculty in Health Care Administration

    • Participates in the interdisciplinary education of all trainees.
    • Provide didactic presentations, hands-on learning, and project mentorship either independently or in collaboration with other LEND faculty.
    • Participate as a member of the RFK LEND Steering Committee.
    • Advises the Director on discipline-specific issues related to curriculum development, trainee selection, program operations and strategy.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    • Bachelors Degree  in business administration or public administration required, Master's degree preferred.
    • 3-5 years experience in Grants and Contracts management, preferably in higher education or health care, with demonstrated experience supervising a team
    • Minimum one (1) year experience working in a LEND program preferred
    • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel required, along with a demonstrated ability to prepare financial analyses
    • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while managing concurrent deadlines
    • Must be able to demonstrate sponsored project technical expertise and mastery of the subject matter in order to address the complexity of the Institute’s portfolio
    • Must be detail-oriented with strong organizational and problem solving skills
    • Must be a self-starter and capable of operating with minimal supervision
    • Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills and ability to work effectively with a diverse group of University and hospital administrators
    • Must have sound judgment with an open and collaborative style of leadership that encourages teamwork and cooperation
