    Founded in 1955, the Albert Einstein College of Medicine (Einstein) is one of the nation’s premier institutions for medical education, basic research and clinical investigation. A full-time faculty of some 2,000 conducts research, teaches, and delivers health care in every major biomedical specialty. The college has some 730 medical students, 193 Ph.D. students, 106 MD/Ph.D. students and 275 postdoctoral fellows.


    Einstein’s major strength, in addition to training physicians and scientists, is its science. During fiscal year 2015, the faculty’s consistently high level of scientific achievement resulted in the awarding of more than $150 million in peer-reviewed grants from the National Institutes of Health (NIH).

    The Office of Development seeks a dynamic, highly-accomplished Major Gift Officer to fund initiatives that build a better future for our patients and community. Reporting directly to Senior Executive Director of Development, the Major Gift Officer will work to create customized strategies for cultivation and solicitation of five-and six-figure gifts from individual donors and prospects. The ideal candidate will be an enthusiastic self-starter capable of building sustainable, long-term philanthropic relationships while meeting annual fundraising goals.


    Responsibilities include:

    • Manage and develop a portfolio of 125-150 major gift prospects, including strategy, cultivation, solicitation, and the closing of gifts.
    • Proactively stay abreast of clinical, research, and administrative initiatives and needs within areas of responsibility, and identify prospective donors for those needs.
    • Write proposals and work with physicians and other Montefiore and Einstein colleagues on proposal development and presentations.
    • Staff volunteers and volunteer councils and committees as assigned.
    • Meet and/or exceed metrics for monthly qualification attempts, meetings and dollars raised.


    Qualified candidates will have earned a bachelor’s degree and have 5 – 7 years of proven success in major gifts fundraising, preferably within a research, academic or healthcare organization.  Candidates should have computer skills and competency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook) and The Raiser’s Edge database or a comparable fundraising database.

     Expected experience and personal qualities include:


    • Passion for science and medicine, professional stature, and personal integrity necessary to effectively support and steward partnerships with scientists, Deans, faculty, philanthropists, volunteers, donors, and prospects.
    • Ability to function independently, yet work in a centralized development structure.
    • Experience engaging internal and external stakeholders, ideally for an academic medical or research-intensive institution leading into a period of substantial growth.
    • Experience with and willingness to augment portfolio through prospecting and reinvigorating lapsed relationships.
    • Optimistic and tenacious while being comfortable with ambiguity.
    • Superb communication skills, including written, oral and active listening.
    • Ability to travel both locally and nationally and work occasional evenings and weekends.
