The Nurse Practitioner (NP) assesses, plans, and implements observational and clinical research protocols in a research setting, independently or autonomous in collaboration with other health professionals. The NP is responsible for managing protocols for study subjects enrolled in therapeutic and non-therapeutic clinical and observational research studies of the MACS/WIHS Research study. This individual is expected to establish and maintain effective communication with professional and ancillary personnel, and to demonstrate a high degree of self motivation. Must be able to work with several members of the study team at various locations as needed.
- Assist with protocol development, subject recruitment, and regulatory documentation.
- Assess the health status of assigned study subjects. Review and interpret screening and diagnostic observations and report findings to the project director, data manager and principal investigators as indicated. Manage coordinate and assume responsibility for activities of the specific research protocol to ensure safe and competent care and effective protocol management.
- Implement subject intake and schedule subjects for related studies.
- Administer medications as needed per protocol.
- Assess the health status of assigned study participants- perform medical histories, analyze laboratory results, and perform physical examinations (including pelvic exam and colposcopy and biopsies).
- In collaboration with the research team, implement, and evaluate protocols based on subject assessment, and provide direct subject care to ensure implementation of specific research protocols.
- Conduct research and clinical activities.
- Monitor participants to ensure that research protocol is being followed. Keeping accurate records documenting activities.
- Complete protocol forms and perform data entry to ensure that data is detailed and accurate
- Implement teaching plans for study subjects to meet learning needs in relation to research protocols.
