POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work with PI to develop study protocols and protocol amendments for IRB and ensure human subjects ethics requirements are fulfilled. Report protocol deviations to PI and IRB.
  • Work with PI and other administrative staff to manage extramural grants, including liaising with grants administrators for financial management of grants. Develop and monitor project budgets.
  • Prepare appropriate progress reports for the PI, study funding agency, and the IRB.
  • Liaise with study partners (in the US and abroad), develop meeting agendas, and facilitate meetings (virtually and in-person).
  • Collaborate with international study partners to oversee data collection, analysis and cleaning, reporting requirements, and trouble shoot various administrative and research issues.
  • Conduct quality control of study data to ensure that collected data are complete and accurate, and that research protocols are being followed.
  • Continually assess staffing needs to facilitate efficient and appropriate coverage and recommend appropriate changes to staffing patterns as needed. Manage staff performance and evaluate the quality of work, providing timely and corrective feedback as needed.
  • Develop systems for information sharing between study sites and to comply with federal data sharing policies.
  • Assist with data analysis, drafting reports, and preparing conference abstracts and presentations.
  • Represent the study at internal and external academic meetings. This may require travel within the U.S. and abroad.
  • Assist PI with preparation of grant proposals (new and competing renewals). Assist the faculty in gathering the required documents and data needed, secure related supporting letters and attachments, negotiate contracts, and ensure the appropriate resources are available.
  • Train and supervise binational team of study coordinators and other research staff, with culturally-responsive technical support.
  • Acclimate and supervise student research interns and fellows.
  • Other study related duties as requested.

QUALIFICATIONS

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree and 3-5 years of related experience. Master’s Degree strongly preferred.
  • Experience coordinating NIH funded studies including working knowledge of NIH policies, procedures, and protocols.
  • U.S. work authorization required. You must have authorization as a lawful permanent resident or U.S. citizen as we cannot sponsor work visas for this position.

 

Skills and Competencies:

  • As part of a team, must be able to manage multiple tasks and priorities, work independently with minimal supervision, and adhere to study protocol.
  • Experience writing scientific documents and overseeing study progress.
  • Experience in mixed methods, social behavioral, and cancer equity research preferred.
  • Outstanding judgement, initiative, and attention to detail are essential.
  • Must be able to manage competing priorities, in communication with PI.
  • Applies technology and innovation to improve efficiency and solve problems.
  • Ability to work well in a multicultural team setting.
  • Experience working in low-resource settings (low- and middle-income countries) preferred.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suites (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Amharic language skills a plus.

USD $61,200.00/Yr.

Maximum Salary Range

USD $68,000.00/Yr.

About Us

The Research Coordinator is responsible for managing studies in the Department of Epidemiology & Population Health that aim to improve cancer screening and prevention and enhance health equity in underserved populations. This position will primarily work on a five-year study of cervical cancer screening implementation among women living with HIV in Ethiopia, funded by the National Cancer Institute, Center for Global Health. The Research Coordinator will work closely with the Principal Investigator (PI) to coordinate all study aspects, from planning to closure. Key responsibilities include liaising with study partners in the U.S. and abroad, providing administrative and research guidance, and reporting and management contributing to overall study progress. Cultural competency, especially any experience working in Ethiopia or other African settings, highly valued. The Research Coordinator may also work on other studies and grant applications in the area of cancer epidemiology, prevention, screening, and control.
