Major Gifts Officer

The Office of Development seeks a dynamic and motivated Major Gift Officer to raise philanthropic support for initiatives that build a better future for our patients and community. Reporting directly to the Senior Director of Major Gifts, the Major Gift Officer will work collaboratively with the Development Office and across departments to create customized strategies for cultivation and solicitation of individual donors and prospects. A critical focus of this role will be on building and strengthening the major gift pipeline to ensure scalable and sustained philanthropic growth. The ideal candidate will have a proven ability to identify prospects, cultivate relationships and align their philanthropic interests with institutional priorities.  Experience in academic medicine and/or healthcare fundraising is strongly preferred. 

Responsibilities include: 

• Manage a portfolio of 125-150 prospective and current donors with capacity to give $10,000 - $1,000,000 gifts.  

• Develop and execute strategies to qualify new leads and engage prospects, utilizing research, referrals, and other methods to identify individuals with major gift potential 

• Build strong collaborative relationships with faculty, clinicians, and researchers to identify strategic fundraising opportunities and connect them with donor interests 

• Meet or exceed annual fundraising goals, as determined by leadership. 

• Develop a deep understanding of specific disease areas and programs to identify strategic fundraising opportunities, while building strong collaborative relationships with faculty, clinicians, and researchers involved in these fields.   

• Maintain accurate and up-to-date records on donor interactions and gift commitments. Ensure alignment of moves management strategies with team-wide development goals 

Bachelor degree bachelor’s degree and have 3-5 years of experience required, advanced degree preferred.

• Passion for science and medicine, professional stature, and personal integrity necessary to effectively support and steward partnerships with clinicians, Departmental Chairs, philanthropists, volunteers, donors, and prospects.  

• Possess an entrepreneurial spirit and collaborative approach to building and strengthening the major gift pipeline including prospect identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship. 

• Strong ability to make cold prospecting calls and develop creative strategies to move potential donors toward solicitation and closure. 

• Optimistic and tenacious with a demonstrated track record in directing and closing successful major gift solicitations from individual and organizational donors. 

• Comfortable working in an evolving environment, with the ability to navigate ambiguity, adapt to changing priorities, and develop creative solutions to achieve goals. 

• Demonstrates a commitment to social justice and the belief that healthcare is a fundamental human right, with experience supporting initiatives that advance equity and access in healthcare. 

• Superb communication skills, including written, oral and active listening;  

• Experience with Raiser’s Edge and NXT.
