About Us

The Senior Accountant is responsible for providing strategic leadership including long and short-term planning in the areas of financial analysis, gift processing, and data entry. This position will report directly to the Senior Director, Development Operations, and will work collaboratively with colleagues in Montefiore and Albert Einstein College of Medicine’s Finance Office to reconcile gifts from the fundraising database and the general ledger, research historical fund allocations and distributions, and prepare financial reports as needed for senior leadership.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Create monthly financial monitoring reports to review with the Finance Office and produce accurate financial status reports and related schedules monthly.
  • Collaborate with the Finance Office to reconcile between gifts received and gifts processed in our fundraising database and the general ledger, ensure all entries are submitted in a timely manner, including managing, and maintaining special event funds and reconciling on an ongoing basis.
  • Compile and review variance analyses and explain discrepancies in financial status reports with supporting documentation.
  • Partner with Database Manager to perform ongoing data and process audits to ensure data integrity is maintained.
  • Assist various departments by setting up funds and ensuring the newly created funds are entered into the database in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Report to various departments on financial information about their temporary and special funds.
  • Manage outstanding pledges via pledge roll-forward schedule and oversee accounts receivable and invoicing.
  • Assist the Finance Office in the preparation of IRS Form 990 (namely Schedule B) and serve as liaison for annual financial audit.
  • Collaborate with Sponsored Research Office to ensure accurate and timely data sharing.
  • Liaise between the Development Office and the Finance Office for all stock and EFT transfers.
  • Ensure financial management processes and policies are documented and understood by the Office of Development staff at large, and responsible for training staff in this area.
  • Provide backup for Operations team as needed, including, but not limited to, review and approve tax receipts, provide backup for Montefiore Senior Accountant, review all Papersave backups and review, enter and approve batches.
  • Assist with various Raiser’s Edge cleanup projects as needed.
  • Special projects as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field required.
  • Three to five years of direct or related experience, preferably in a health related or educational institution.
  • Knowledge of nonprofit fiscal policies, procedures, rules and regulations.
  • Background in accounting and finance is required.
  • Nonprofit fundraising experience and knowledge of nonprofit fiscal policies, procedures, rules and regulations preferred.
  • Knowledge of fundraising system is essential, prior use of Raiser’s Edge NXT preferred.

Skills & Competencies

  • Advanced knowledge of Raisers Edge, or a similar fundraising database, Microsoft Excel is required. Familiarity with other software, including databases and financial reporting systems, such as Banner and SAP.
  • Act as the lead knowledge source in terms of the policies and procedures that adhere to institutional and federal requirements, such as GAAP, FERPA, HIPAA.
  • Stay current on industry technology, data management practices and tax/legal issues related to gifts processing and constituent records, including, Raiser’s Edge Database.
  • Strong analytical reasoning and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent time management, organizational skills and ability to meet strict deadlines.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Attention to detail, accuracy, and transparency required.
  • Well-versed in both fundraising principles and generally accepted accounting principles.
  • Ability to work autonomously in a cross-functional environment.

Minimum Salary Range

USD $61,000.00/Yr.

Maximum Salary Range

USD $97,000.00/Yr.
